Ubuntu Linux

I was first exposed to Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) in the fall of 2007 while finishing my MS in Computer Science at American University.  At the time we were using it as a programming platform for writing and compiling 16-bit C code.  I thoroughly enjoyed the initial experience and gradually moved all of my home and work computer systems to Ubuntu.  I'm currently running Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx).  Although not without bumps, I've found Ubuntu to be a very solid desktop and server platform with a great user community to look to for support when issues arise.

Major Home Issues:
  1. Lack of iTunes support on Linux.  I've tried the Ubuntu One music store, Amazon, etc. and they just don't measure up... at least not yet.
Major Business Issues:
  1. Support for Linux in web conferencing solutions such as Web-Ex, Citrix, etc.
  2. Open Office file compatibility with Microsoft Office.  Generally the files are always readable, however formatting can get a bit screwy, particularly if you are dealing with change tracking and more advanced document formatting.  I've found saving documents in Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP format within Open Office to be the most compatible with Microsoft users.
